First Day in Kuala Lumpur

Or second if you count checking it hotel at 2am…. So we haven’t actually left the hotel yet, but the included breakfast was amazing! Way better than the standard breakfasts some hotels have. Six types of juices, a plethora of fruit, potatoes, omelets, pastries, and an array Asian looking breakfast dishes. Sorry no pictures of breakfast, we forgot the camera, plus we were both starving!

IMG_6705Then off to check out the local shopping mall, a six story beast covered in named brands.  After wondering around for an hour or two we decided to head toward the Petronas Towers, but go sucked into the mall there since it was far to toasty after the 1km walk, and thought holly crap more air conditioning, YES PLEASE!  Then after sucking up the air conditioning for awhile, the unforeseeable struck, the dreaded jet lag. So thinking hey it’s a good idea to head back to the hotel and take a quick nap, even setting the alarm to make sure it wouldn’t turn itself into a six hour nap.  Well let’s just say the alarm didn’t work and a good portion of the day vanished into a dreamy haze…

IMG_6768So upon awaking let’s just say it wasn’t quite day anymore… But luckily it wasn’t midnight yet, at least not all was lost. So we rushed down stairs and quick a quick byte to eat, and took a cab to Merdeka Square.  Which was packed, and a big stage was setup with music and dancers through the night. So we listened to the entertainment IMG_6736and enjoyed the heat for about 3 hours.  Also it felt like I was watching the world cup, at least noise wise everyone had noise makes are you can see in the picture. We even had our own contraptions but nowhere near as loud as the locals.

IMG_6886Once it hit midnight the building next to us exploded into an array of lights, and the sky filled with fireworks. The fireworks were fantastic, and if you thought the sound would make you deaf before, let’s just say it was MUCH louder. New years in Kuala Lumpur was a lot of fun, and there were plenty of different places to go, the city was covered in people, during the days there were a lot of people but at midnight it was like an anthill.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAnd the The kiss at midnight was perfect! So far Malaysia has been great, the people seem very friendly we’ll soon be off to Langkawi to relax on the beach.

First Class?

What’s better than thirteen hours on a plane in coach? Well first class of course!!! And what’s not as good as first class, but still a hell of a lot better than coach? Coach with three seats all to your self! Oh yeah!  Korean Air is pretty nice so far, they keep bringing tasty food, and laying down across three seats while watching a movie it pretty nice so far.  I’d have to say so far that trip is awesome, and technically it hasn’t really even started yet. I’m currently trying to figure out if I should watch another movie or pass out.  It’s after 3am Reno time, but only 8pm Korean time…. I should try and force myself up for another two hours, sounds like it’s time for the next movie!

Oh and started watching what looks like a very interesting Anime on the plane; Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt…  I watched one ep, and so far I think, yeah not really sure what to think.  Panty is a sex crazed woman, that takes her panties off when fighting crime…  They turn into a gun.  And Stocking is her candy crazed sister, which turns her stockings into swords, and they’re collecting coins from heaven, I think…  I’m really not sure, but I think I’m going to have to watch the remaining twelve episodes.  And no it’s not porn, even know the description is a bit, ummm yeah……

Blinged Out in LA

IMG_6648

Just to let everyone know I picked up a third passenger the other day.  So it won’t just be Nataly and I adventuring in Malaysia, Domo will be joining us!  As you can see he’s blinged out for the Los Angles international airport.  Which doesn’t seem to have free internet, jerks…  I had the pleasure of the new ultra fancy TSA regulations even! Not in Reno of course, but for the international terminal here. I’m not sure what the big deal is I mean they didn’t even give me a cavity search, and have seen me?!?!  I’m pretty damn shady!  Anyway all I had to do was stand in the radiation death trap without moving for seven seconds. That’s about it, they’ll probably be some pretty hot pictures online of me soon.  I hope I get some of the proceeds they make, if anyone sees me out there link me up!!!  Oh one thing about the scanners you’re not supposed to have anything in your pockets, and no belt.  I had a nice plastic travel belt and I was required to take it off, and right after the scanner I had to stand in front of someone that may have thought about feeling me up, but instead just looked me over.  I know what he was thinking after seeing me pictures on the body scanner, what a pervert!

Anyway scanners are boring, and I’m still recovering from the unprecedented violations I experienced, so far the trip has been great. The first leg of the flight was in a smaller prop plane and there was a small amount of turbulence, but nothing too horrid.  They did make me runway check my bag since it was to large to fit in their tiny overhead compartments.  I ended up sitting next to a nice older lady, and chatted about my sweet travel adventures, she had to fly through LA to get to Portland with a 5 hour layover, which had made my little 5 hour lay over seem like nothing.  At least I’m flying somewhere worth a layover.  I’m glad she went the back assword way to Portland since it made the flight much more enjoyable then just sitting for two hours in a tiny seat, next to someone with a funky smell.

The next flight should be taking off soon, a nice short 13 or so hour flight; followed by the best 10 hour layover I could ever hope for! I bet you can’t wait for my next post, hopefully with something a bit more exciting than a plane flight and 5 hours of sitting next to a power plug watching movies and playing games.

One Week Till Take Off

Test

Only four days left of work for the rest of the year, and almost the start of a great adventure!  What more could one want? I have almost everything prepared packing wise for Malaysia, all nicely squished into my carry on baggage. Which will last a comfortable 28 days. Along with my 5Dm2, 2 lenses, 1 flash, 1 tripod, and a x201. Which will should let me document the trip quickly and easily.  I just hope the space it’s taking up is worth it, which of course it will be!

Nataly and I will spend New Years in Kuala Lumpur, and currently that’s then end of the planning.  From there we’ll hopefully follow a rough itinerary, which we have yet to finalize.  Or really even start, but of course that’s half the fun.  Keep the trip fluid, play it by ear, and follow random paths we would of never thought about if we stuck to a strict plan and timeline.

That’s all for now, I hope to keep this updated through the trip!
